Before considering a technology to handle household waste a local authority waste team must consider if it offers a viable solution.
Parc is LATS compliant
The diversion from landfill and extra recycling Parc can offer your local authority is fully recognised by the LATS scheme.
Parc works on British unsegregated household waste
Waste streams can differ greatly from country to country. Parc has been developed, tested and run using Briitsh waste.
Parc can handle huge volumes of waste
A Parc tower can process 25,000 tonnes of waste per year. To process more waste you simply build more towers.
Tried and tested
Parc has been operatiing since 2002, unlike other more experimental waste technologies it has proved it can be used to process waste in the volumes needed without failure. Parc is a tried and tested industrial process.
Diversion from landfill
Parc towers offer up to 85% diversion from landfill.
Planner and community friendly
Compared to other waste treatment processes (especially waste incineration) Parc does not attract negative attention from the local community or difficulty from planners. We are helped in planning applications by the fact that planners and community groups are welcome to tour the Parc facility at Thornley.
Increased recycling
Parc extracts glass, non-ferrous and ferrous metal and plastic bag fabric for recycling. It also turns the biogenic fraction of the waste into a product. Without Parc all of this material would have gone to landfill.
Works alongside your dry recyclables and green waste collection
Parc currently takes household waste that is subject to a kerbside collection of glass, paper and cans; green waste collection; plastic bottle and cardboard collection. Parc has shown that it can work alongsside these collection routines to extracrt even more recyclable material from the waste mass.
Carbon friendly
It is essential that a local authority take into account the carbon impact of any waste technology chosen, especially with the likely introduction of a carbon tax. Put simply Parc locks up the majority of the carbon present in the waste inside the soil conditioner produced by the compost action within the tower; making Parc very carbon friendly.
