Shorter Residence Time Trials |
We took the decision to shut down one of the existing towers to do some long term maintenance work which gave sufficient spare back-end MRF availability to reduce residence time in the NTDP Tower 3 to as low as 65 hours (2.7 days) but typically 80 hours (3.3 days).
The effects of short residence time need further verification but can in the meantime be summarised as:
- The resultant outputs are sufficiently dry, homogenous and broken down to allow effective separation in the back-end MRF.
- The percentage of CLO/Soil Conditioner is reduced by around 4%.
- The percentage process loss is reduced by around 3%.
- At the 80 hour level there is no significant difference in odour levels in the plant, at the 60 hour level we would expect problems with odour with the current building & bio-filter design.
